Day 1: Welcome to Italy
Meet your guide at the airport and enjoy a private transfer to Montichiello. Welcome dinner and overnight stay in Montichiello.
Day 2: Hiking Begins – The Wonderful Val d’Orcia
Set off towards Pienza along rural roads lined with cypress and oak forests. Pass the iconic village of Pienza and the famous Vitaleta Chapel, a favorite of photographers worldwide. Continue to the Avenue of the Gladiator before reaching San Quirico d’Orcia for lunch. Pause at the world-famous cypress trees, then continue to Montalcino.
Day 3: Vineyards, Abbey of Sant’Antimo & Bagno Vignoni
Descend towards the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, nestled among vineyards, then climb through Castelnuovo dell’Abate along narrow paths and fords to the ridge connecting San Quirico to Bagno Vignoni. Enjoy a packed lunch with panoramic views of the valley. Continue to Vignoni Alto, drop off your backpacks, and explore the Roman baths and medieval mills.
Day 4: Rocca di Tentennano & Slopes of Mount Amiata
Hike to the majestic Rocca di Tentennano, the valley’s unconquered fortress, then proceed to Castiglione d’Orcia, a terrace overlooking the former sea of the valley. Continue toward the northern slope of the ancient Mount Amiata volcano, observing the changing vegetation with altitude.
Day 5: Mount Amiata & Abbadia San Salvatore
Climb to the summit of Mount Amiata (1,738 m), passing through beech and conifer forests. From the top, enjoy sweeping views of Lazio and Umbria, while learning about the region’s fascinating geology. After lunch at a local restaurant, descend to Abbadia San Salvatore, crossing volcanic rocks ejected nearly 200,000 years ago.
Day 6: Baths of San Filippo & Mysterious Radicofani
Begin the day on paved roads before returning to dirt paths toward Bagni San Filippo, where natural pools in the woods offer a relaxing stop. Admire the unique geological formations and their hidden secrets. After lunch in a local tavern, continue to Radicofani, a striking village crowned by a castle atop the remains of an ancient volcano.
Day 7: Local Products & Departure
After breakfast, enjoy the opportunity to purchase local specialties before transfer and departure.
